True Hip-Hop Stories: Lords of The Underground

True Hip-Hop Stories: Lords of The Underground from D-Nice on Vimeo.

many of my memories from childhood was buying records. I remember buying D-Nice's crumbs on the Table 12in and I use to love scratching the "is that a turntable? well get on it!" phrase. Flash forward to today and I've rediscoved the talented D-nice as a more than competent film maker. Tellin stories on wax or video, the cat is a real talent. This is one of my favorite episodes of True Hip Hop stories. Doitall of the rap group Lords of The Underground, discusses the birth of their hit recording "Funky Child." peep game.

Vinroc-Walking Free

So sometimes when I'm trying to make new stuff It's always a hit and miss process. Sometimes I feel like I got something going and other times I'm not going anywhere, and sometimes its something in the middle like this(hey, my opinion anyway).. I was messing with this Commodores record "Zoom". Its just a simple rearranged sample and looped up . At first I didn't like what I did with it but it grew on me.It felt good and It reminded me of a theme I've always tried to live my life by which is to do my best to live "Free", live "Fluid". I figure its worth saving it for reminding me of that lesson. So instead of burying this in the vault, I figure I'll let it fly free to y'all. Zoom Zoom...

making of the luv luv video.

when vinroc first mentioned he was going to shoot a video for LuvLuv, i mentioned that a peek into the making of the video might make for interesting blog content. so he invited me to tag along to observe and record some video of it's making.

we both kinda thought that shooting the video would consist of a few dudes + jenisis in a garage using vins video camera and maybe some flashlights for lighting... well maybe not that "homegrown"... but we didn't really expect the super legit studio, equipment, and minds the universe saw fit to bless the project with.

i think my favorite aspect of observing the making of the video was watching it grow. from the studio, to the other people who are in the video, and all the ideas as to how to make a quality video just kinda snowballed into a great project. it's an awesome example of creative people working together for the sake of art. shout out to hayves who helped take the video in that direction.
